 Mary Sorenti Summer Reading Grant                                                                                                        

Mary Sorenti is a long-time member and supporter of CCCILA. She served as treasurer for more than 25 years. Mary also volunteered countless hours in several Cape Cod schools tutoring young learners.  We invite you to apply for the Summer Reading Grant that was established in her honor.  Allington and McGill-Franzen (2013) have established a correlation between lack of access to book ownership for summer reading and the widening of the rich/poor learning gap. They advise providing books that students choose to read and scheduling activities for book discussion and sharing. Poorer students lose more due to the summer slide, increasing the rich/poor learning gap. 
Applicants must have a current Cape Cod Reading Council Membership.
Goals of the Grant

• Prevent summer reading/literacy slide. 
• Help close the rich/poor reading/literacy gap.
• Facilitate the selection and purchase of  books for summer reading. 
• Provide opportunities for young readers to participate in book discussions and related activities. ​
